LG G4 vs HTC One M9+ – Price, Features and Specs Compared

The availability of the latest generation high-end smartphone from injury – the LG G4 – has once again shaken up the smartphone segment in a better way.

It will compete head-to-head with the HTC One M9+, which is a slightly different version of the One M9.

Design

The LG G4 has all the credentials of a high-end smartphone – large screen, high resolution, excellent build quality and premium design. Yet, it loses out to the HTC One M9+ in terms of sheer desirability. The HTC phone appears to have an element that is tough to describe, but makes the phone feel ultra-premium. This desirability factor existed even in the older generation of the phone like the HTC One M8 and it continues in this latest generation as well.

Display

The LG G4 does extremely well in order to highlight its primary features like the 5.5 inch display, which is a significant improvement over the 5.2 inch screen on the HTC. The slightly smaller display on the HTC helps it to edge closer towards the magical 600 PPI mark, whereas the LG G4 is in the lower 500 PPI range. This is insignificant since it does not make a huge difference in reality. Both the phones are extremely good to look at, but one can be slightly critical of the LG G4 due to the screen’s high saturation nature.

LG Camera

Camera has always been an outstanding aspect of the HTC devices and this tradition continues on the HTC One M9+ as well. The LG G4 has a 16 megapixel camera complete with bells and whistles seen in the previous generation. Quality has been improved slightly, but this is barely noticeable. The biggest change comes in the sensor size, which has been increased to 1/2.6” compared to the previous generation that had a size of 1/3”. This substantially improves night photography, whereas the daytime photography is unlikely to show much difference.

HTC Camera

Even after being heavily criticized for its dual camera setup in the HTC One M8, the Taiwanese company has gone for a similar offering in the One M9+. However, this phone rings up substantial changes in this regard to do away with the criticism. Rather than the ultra-pixel camera of the predecessor, the One M9+ comes with a standard 20 megapixel camera of the highest order. This is supported by a small two megapixel camera just above it. This camera functions primarily to add depth to the pictures using the funky effects on the phone. The device has a front facing four megapixel camera for good quality selfies. However, it loses out, when compared to the LG G4, which has a quite impressive eight megapixel shooter.

The LG G4 has the advantage of having a removable battery, which is also fairly large at 3000 mAh. The HTC device continues with its non-removable battery setup and it is rated at 2840 mAh. The recently announced the LG G4 is available for around $600 whereas the One M9+ is significantly more expensive at around $800.
