Xiaomi Redmi 1S vs. HTC Desire 210 – Battle of Entry-Level Smartphones

While HTC has launched a new entry-level smartphone called HTC Desire 210, the Chinese company Xiaomi has come up with the Redmi series of entry and budget-level smartphones.

One of its basic smartphones, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S, has impressed tons of people across the globe and is giving tough competition to the entry-level smartphones of the big names in the industry. So, how does the Redmi 1S perform against the HTC Desire 210? Here is it!

Design

The design of HTC Desire 210 and the Redmi 1S is somewhat similar with sharp edges and slim shape. To be accurate, Xiaomi Redmi 1S has a larger body and sharper edges with the dimensions of 137x69x9.9mm in comparison to HTC Desire 210’s 125.7x65x10.5mm. There is a considerable difference in the weight of the two devices; as the HTC smartphone weighs 28g lesser than the Xiaomi Redmi 1S, hitting the scale at 130g. Overall, the design of HTC Desire 210 is more impressive because its premium design and lighter weight fits better in the hands of users.

Display and Screen

The HTC Desire 210 features a 4-inch screen, while the Redmi 1S has a screen of 4.7-inches. Along with a 0.7-inch larger screen, the resolution of the Xiaomi device is also better than the HTC Desire 210. The Xiaomi 1S has the resolution of 720×1280 pixels, which renders a 312 PPI whereas HTC Desire 210 features 480×800 pixels, with a comparably lower, 233 PPI. Hence, you can view better quality images, texts and videos on the Redmi 1S.

Performance

Although both the devices run on the Android Jelly Bean, there is a huge difference in the performance of the two smartphones. The Redmi 1S is loaded with a 1.6 GHz Quad Core processor, whereas HTC Desire 210 runs on 1 GHz Dual Core processor. In addition to this, the Xiaomi Redmi device is powered by a 1GB RAM in comparison to HTC Desire 210’s 512MB.

When it comes to storage, the Redmi 1S has a 100 percent more internal storage than the HTC Desire 210. The inbuilt memory of Xiaomi Redmi 1S is 8GB, while the same for HTC Desire 210 is 4GB. However, the memory levels of both the devices are expandable up to 32GB.

Camera

Offering a 5MP rear camera, HTC Desire 210 keeps up with the tag of an entry-level smartphone. On the contrary, Xiaomi Redmi 1S comes loaded with a more powerful, 8MP rear camera with flash and lots of additional features like Smile and Face detection. Apart from it, the front camera of the HTC Desire 210 is of 0.3MP while the same for Xiaomi Redmi is 1.3MP. Therefore, the Xiaomi Redmi device has better offerings for photo-lovers.

Verdict

Although the price of the Redmi 1S is about $15 higher than the HTC Desire 210, the Xiaomi device is preferred by users because it’s loaded with more impressive features and specifications. While the HTC Desire 210 sticks to the “entry-level smartphone” tag, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S offers much more than what people expect in a basic smartphone. Hence, taking the lead in majority of comparable factors, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S is declared as the winner in the battle of two entry-level smartphones.
