WhatsApp Voice Calling Beta for Windows Phone is Out, Video Calling Feature on the Cards

WhatsApp is growing like an ant-hill, taking shape with each and every update and gaining more dominance and stability with each upgrade.

The latest major feature to appear on this platform is the WhatsApp voice calling service. This feature is still very young for the users of WhatsApp, following its first launch a few months ago. The voice calling services have been available for the users of Android, iOS and BlackBerry; with the last two platforms still yet to fully receive the feature, as it continues to roll out in phases. However, everyone who is using the Android 2.1 and above can access and download the latest version of this VoIP app and use it to make free voice calls to the other users of the app, regardless of their global location.

WhatsApp for Windows Phone has been neglected on numerous occasions and for sure, very few updates have been directed this way. Most of the features available for the Android and iOS users of this messenger are only but beginning to find their way to this Microsoft platform. One of them is the voice calling feature, which has now been availed in beta.

How to get WhatsApp voice calling beta on Windows Phone

Unlike Android devices where one only needs to make some tweaks to their phone in order to install a beta version of WhatsApp, Windows Phone users must first of all be members of the WhatsApp beta testing program. After joining this program, it will now be possible to download and install the latest WhatsApp 2.12.40 beta for Windows Phone, which has the voice calling feature enabled.

The interface has not changed much as the users can now enjoy more options of calling, chatting as well as see the list of contacts in the app from the home page of the app. Other than this update, the users of WhatsApp on Windows Phone will enjoy a better performing app that is free of any bugs and errors. Furthermore, WhatsApp Web has now been refined and works even much better with this new version. Unlike in the past, where the users could only use Chrome to access this web client, it is now possible to use Firefox and Opera as well.

WhatsApp video calling to follow soon

Now that the WhatsApp voice calling beta has appeared on Windows Phone devices, it is expected that the company will start to work on a video calling feature that will enable the users enjoy live one-on-one chats. While the specific date of rolling out the voice calling feature on Windows Phone is not yet known, it is similarly not possible to tell when the video calling feature will be availed for use. However, rumors suggest that the feature will be ready by this fall.

WhatsApp is also expected to work on a feature that lets its users connect with those not using the platform. Just like Skype and Viber, users will be expected to either use their airtime or credit sourced from the app’s website when making free voice and video calls to the non-users of the app.
