A huge change for Apple! You can now repair your devices with iPhones and Macs parts sold by Apple. The company wants to start selling both parts and tools, and they also want to send us instructions on how to repair the products. They will start with iPhone 12 and 13, and Macs with M1 chips.

You will be able to replace the display, battery and camera using parts from Apple.  This is great news, considering that Apple has always expressed its disagreement with repairing your devices outside of the official Apple stores.

The program will be called “Self Service Repair”, and it will be launched next year in the US, and then it will expand to other countries. This program is only meant for “individual technicians with the knowledge and experience to repair electronic devices”, encouraging simple customers to ask for the help of technicians at all times. These repairs will not mess with your device’s warrant, but damaging it in the process might.

The company will sell original parts to third-party repair shops, meaning that you will pay full price from them. But the good thing is that these parts won’t mess with your device. But it also means that the company still supports some restrictions – you will only be able to use the parts brought from Apple, which shows that we don’t have complete freedom with regards to repairing our devices.

Apple wants to sell more than 200 individual parts and tools, along with repair manuals.

So how much will these parts cost?

As of now, we don’t have any official details about the price of the parts or tool. But we do know that customers will receive a recycling credit if they return their used parts after a repair.
