iPad Air 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 – Choose The Best Tablet

The Apple fans will buy any device released by this company, because they know they’ll spend their money wisely. And the iPad Air 2 is one of the tablets that turn anyone’s head, having a beautiful design and not to mention, great specs. But it’s smaller than Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S tablet, if we take into consideration the bigger variant.

Designs

Apple developed a passion for aluminum and used this material on 99% of its devices. The iPad Air 2 has it too, and the company managed to make the device as thin as possible, measuring only 6.1mm. It’s 20mm tall, has a width of 169.5mm, the WiFi variant weights 437grams and the 3G/LTE variant is 7grams heavier. The Tab S has a perforated back, just like the Galaxy S5 smartphone, and has a plastic frame that looks like metal. It’s not as thick as the iPad Air 2, but it’s thinner than most of the tablets, because it weights 6.6mm. It’s 247.3mm tall, much wider at 177.3mm and weights 465grams. It’s pretty heavy, but the reason you’ll want to buy it is the big screen, which is perfect for watching movies when you’re traveling and getting bored.

Displays

Speaking of screens, the Tab S has a 10.5inches Super AMOLED panel which is capable to support a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels with 288ppi, which won’t disappoint you. It offers sharp images, a good contrast and the videos and photos look rich in color. The iPad Air 2 has a 9.7inches LED-backlit IPS LCD with a lower resolution of 1536×2048 pixels and which gives a pixel density of 264ppi. The screen is covered with a scratch-resistant glass, while the Tab S lacks any kind of protection. Also, the Apple tablet added an anti-reflective coating which improves the viewing experience when you’re outside and the sun shines brightly. This way, you’ll see the content without struggling too much.

Processors and Memories

The iPad Air 2 uses the new A8X triple-core 1.5GHz processor, which is 64bit based, but which is 12 times faster than the processor from the first iPad. The tablet comes also with better graphics, 180 percent faster than the GPU from the previous model. The iPad Air 2 has 2GB of Ram and runs on iOS 8.1, but you can upgrade it to iOS 8.1.2. The internal memories are unexpandable and have capacities of 16, 64 and 128GB.

The Tab S is powered by an Exynos 5 Octa 5420 octa core processor with a quad core Cortex A15 CPU clocked at 1.9GHz and a quad core Cortex A7 CPU clocked at 1.3GHz. The processor runs very fast with a Mali-T628 MP6 GPU and 3GB of RAM, and has Android v4.4.2 (KitKat) installed on it. Its internal storage is available in variants of 16 and 32GB, with the possibility to get up to 128GB if adding a microSD card.

Cameras

Both tablets have back cameras of 8MP, but the iPad Air 2 lacks LED flash. Its front camera has a lower resolution of 1.2MP, compared to 2.1MP from the Tab S.

Batteries

The Apple tablet has a built-in battery of 27.3 Wh which supports 10 hours of multimedia usage, with one hour less than Tab S’ 7900 mAh battery, which is also non-removable.
