GoPro Hero 5 To Be Released With Dual-lens Setup And A 2,800mAh Battery

GoPro will make its comeback soon with another Hero action-camera which will compete directly with Xiaomi, which announced that will release a similar device. The Hero 4 Black and Silver editions were sold very well, but it’s time for a successor to show up and without a doubt, it will crush its competition.

We don’t know much about the Hero 5, because its specs haven’t been leaked yet, but we can assume that it will waterproof and will resist up to the depth of 60 meters and will have dual-lens setup and will support 3D imaging. While some rumors are pointing out to 4K video shooting, but at 60 seconds per second, not at 30 fps, as the Hero 4 Black supports, Leo Sun of The Motley Fool believes that the device will be capable of recording 8K videos. This sound awesome, but we don’t know if it’s achievable in the near feature. However, 8K videos can be already watched on some 8K TVs, so it’s not impossible for GoPro to bring this feature to its upcoming Hero 5. The only problem is that the device will need bigger space, because 8K makes larger files.

The GoPro Hero 5 is expected to be powered by an A10 chip and its battery capacity will be increased from 1,160mAh (Hero 4 Black) to 2,800mAh. There are small chances to see it released sooner than September or October, but the wait will be worth it.

A real problem for the Hero 5 will be Xiaomi’s action camera, which will cost only 65 dollars, and we don’t know yet if it’s about the Yi Action Camera that was recently released in China, with a 16MP camera which can shoot 1080p videos at 60 frames per second.

But GoPro has more rivals to be afraid of: HTC, Sony and Polaroid, which offer action cameras with decent specs, which can compete on the low-end market. Fortunately, non of their devices can compete with the current Hero 4 Black, which costs around 500 dollars, or the Hero 4 Silver, which is 100 dollars cheaper and can record 1080p videos at 60 frames. With these cameras, GoPro’s shares rose 3.44 percent to 43.76 dollars and we’re pretty sure that the Hero 5, which will cost between 400 and 500 dollars, will be a major hit on the market.
