Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Update Brings Gesture Control for Android Wear

The Android 5.0 Lollipop hasn’t yet made it to all the compatible smartphones and the Android 5.1 update is available just for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 and Nexus 9.

However, it seems that Google will release a new update, the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update that will make some significant changes in the way we operate with our devices. The update will be released for smartphones, wearable devices and tablets.

When Will the Update Be Available?

According to some sources, the Android 5.1.1 update will be released in the following days, probably by the end of next week. By then, the update will surely come to the eligible devices or better said, the ones that already have the Android 5.1 update installed.

Eligible Phones

At the moment, only Google’s own devices are eligible for the Android 5.1.1 update. As usual, Nexus devices are the first to get the update. At this point, the first wave of devices to get the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop includes the Nexus 4, the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 9. Other devices should be eligible, as the Nexus 5 and the Nexus 6 also have the 5.1 Lollipop on them and could receive the 5.1.1 update.

What is New?

One of the biggest additions to the Android 5.1.1 is the introduction of gesture control. Users were waiting for gesture control with the 5.1 update, but it seems like Google needed more time to develop the feature. Gesture control brings support for the Android Wear devices. In essence, gesture control allows users to scroll down through their notifications by using their wrist, not their hands. It is a simple and welcomed addition, one that will make life easier for the users of the wearables. Another improvement will be done in the Wi-Fi section, where the pre-installed chip should be activated with the update to the 5.1.1 Lollipop.
