WhatsApp is the most popular app when talking about instant messaging.

The CEO of WhatsApp, Mr. Jan Koum recently announced that this instant messaging application has managed to hit the 700 million mark, when it comes to the number of users.

However, this feat is just but the beginning of what Facebook’s takeover of the app is about to bring to this instant messenger. When Facebook took over the reins at WhatsApp, the app had just 500 million users. However, in the short period this has been on, this application has managed to add more than 200 million additional users to its account and according to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the goal is to reach the 4 or 5 billion mark in the next five years.

WhatsApp is a phone-based app

Unlike other mobile apps that can be installed on other devices such as tablets and PCs, WhatsApp can only be installed on a mobile phone. So, if you have ever tried to install it on your tablet, for instance, an iPad Air or iPad Mini and failed, there is a way out and with this article, you’ll finally be able to install this amazing app on your iPad Mini or iPad Air without having to be tech savvy.

While installing WhatsApp on your iPhone is very easy, when you finish reading this article you’ll find out that the installation process on an iPad Air or iPad Mini is just as simple as it is on an iPhone. You can even have it on your iPod Touch and the good thing about it is that you don’t have to jailbreak any of your devices at all.

How to install WhatsApp on your iPad Air, iPad Mini or iPod Touch

In order to install and start using WhatsApp on your iPad Air or iPad Mini, you’ll first need to have a Mac with you, after which you’ll also have to download and install the iTunes Configuration Utility on your Mac. You can still download this Configuration Utility on your Windows PC and update it if need be.

The next thing is to download the official WhatsApp application for iPhones as an .ipa file and save it on your PC or Mac. However, make sure to use the following path when saving the downloaded iPhone application.

For Windows PC users, use the path: C:UsersyourusernameMusiciTunesiTunes MediaMobile Application.

For Mac users, use the path: Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications

This is essentially the first step towards your big installation of WhatsApp on your iPad Air or iPad Mini tablet. The second phase involves the process where you have to connect your tablet to the Mac or PC using a USB cable. After that, launch the iPhone Configuration Utility you had downloaded earlier and then click on “Devices” to check that the iPad Air or iPad Mini is properly connected to your computer. Click on the “Applications” button located on the sidebar on the left panel.

You can look for WhatsApp when here and when you find it, click on the installer located next to the application’s name. Once this is done, the application will be installed on your device.

Verification of WhatsApp for iPad Air or iPad Mini

Just like installing WhatsApp on your mobile device, it is mandatory that the application installed on your iPad Air or iPad Mini be verified by WhatsApp, before you can start using it. In essence, once the app is done installing, you’ll have to go through the usual set up process like you do with your phone’s application. This means that you still need an iPhone or any other smartphone in order to complete the ongoing installation of WhatsApp on your tablet.

Usually, the first attempt to verify your account on the tablet will fail and as such, WhatsApp will send a text message with a verification code to your phone which you must input in the tablet in order to complete the sign up process. One thing you need to realize is that you cannot use an existing WhatsApp number to verify your account; instead, you’ll need a new number.

Once this is done, you’ll start using WhatsApp on your iPad Air, iPad Mini or even on your iPod Touch without any problems.
