Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 vs Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 – Differences and Best Specs Comparison

Nowadays, people are most addicted to smartphones than to tablets because they’re easier to carry, but phones don’t offer the same experience as a tablet. However, if you want to watch a movie or play a game, you will surely want to user a bigger screen and this is where tablets enter the stage. In 2014, Samsung released two awesome tablets with the same screen size, but they’re different internally. Let’s see their specs.

Displays

Both screens measure 8.4inches and they support a resolution of 1600×2560 pixels at 359 ppi. They content is very clear and detailed on both screens, but Samsung used different technologies, as the Tab S features a Super AMOLED display, created by Samsung, and this type of screen is known for its vibrant colors. If you thought this couldn’t get better than this, then you’ll be even more satisfied with the Super Clear LCD screen from the Galaxy TabPro.

Designs and dimensions

While the Tab S has the same dotted pattern from the Galaxy S5 smartphone, the TabPro received a faux leather back with fake stitches on the edges, but both tablets have silver plastic frames. Regarding the dimensions, the Tab S is much slimmer, being one of the thinnest tablets from the market, it’s also shorter and lighter. It measures 212.8×125.6×6.6 mm and has a weight of 294 grams. On the other hand, the TabPro measures 219×128.5×7.2 mm and it’s 37grams heavier. Even if it has a premium design, the TabPro lacks the fingerprint sensor.

Hardware and OS

The Tab S is more powerful because it hides under its hood a combination of two quad core processors: Cortex-A15 clocked at 1.9GHz and Cortex-A7 clocked at 1.3GHz, based on an Exynos 5 Octa 5420 chipset, which work very fast with Mali-T628 MP6 graphics and 3GB of RAM. As for the TabPro’s internal specifications, the tablet is powered by a simple quad-core 2.3GHz Krait 400 processor backed by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, Adreno 330 graphics and 2GB of RAM.

Both tablets offer two variants of internal memories with capacities of 16 and 32GB, but while the Tab S supports the addition of a microSD card with a capacity of up to 64GB, the TabPro supports expansion up to 128GB.

The Tab S came loaded with Android v4.4.2 (KitKat) and now it runs on v5.0.2 (Lollipop), while the TabPro is stuck with v4.4 (KitKat).

Cameras

There’s no difference between the rear cameras of these tablets, as both support a resolution of 8MP and have common features such as LED flash, autofocus and video capture at 1080p@30fps. We don’t think it really matters if the front camera on the Tab S is 2.1MP and the one on the TabPro is 2MP.

Batteries

The Tab S is powered by a non-removable battery of 4900mAh, but it has the same lifespan as the 4800 mAh battery from the TabPro: 11 hours under mixed usage.

Prices

The 16GB variant of the Tab S costs 398 dollars on Amazon, while the TabPro 16GB costs only 255 dollars.
