HTC Desire 826 vs. Samsung Galaxy Alpha – Premium Phones that are Balanced and very Comfortable to Use

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha was released towards the end of 2014, whereas the HTC Desire 826 was released in January 2015. The Alpha is from Samsung and the Desire 826 is from HTC, but both are Android phones. The Desire 826 runs on the latest Lollipop 5.0.1 version of Android, whereas the Galaxy Alpha runs on the Android 4.4.3, the KitKat version. The Samsung Galaxy Alpha has skinned the Android OS with its TouchWiz user interface, whereas the Desire 826 is skinned with the HTC’s Sense user interface.

Size, Dimensions and Display

The dimensions of the HTC Desire 826 are 157.7 x 78.7 x 7.7 mm, compared to the 132.4 x 65.5 x 6.7 mm of the Galaxy Alpha. The HTC Desire 826 is heavier at 183g, compared to the 115g of the Galaxy Alpha. The Desire 826 makes use of a Nano SIM, whereas the Galaxy Alpha makes use of a micro SIM.

The HTC Desire 826 makes use of the LCD technology for its 5.5 inch screen display, compared to the Super AMOLED technology used in the Samsung Galaxy Alpha in its smaller 4.7 inches display screen. However, the Galaxy Alpha also comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protecting its screen. The display resolution of the HTC Desire 826 is better at 1080 x 1920 pixels compared to the 720 x 1280 pixels of the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. It results in a higher pixel density of 401 ppi in case of the HTC Desire 826, compared to the 320 ppi of the Galaxy Alpha.

Memory Specs

The HTC Desire comes with an internal storage of 16 GB and the Samsung Galaxy Alpha comes with internal storage of 32 GB. Though the internal storage of the HTC Desire 826 is less at 16 GB, it can be expanded up to a maximum of 128 GB with the use of a micro SD card, whereas the Galaxy Alpha does not have this feature. However, both the devices have the same RAM at 2 GB.

Hardware Specs

The HTC Desire 826 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon, 615, whereas the Galaxy Alpha is powered by the Exynos 5 Oct, 5430 Processor. The Desire 826 clocks at a speed of 1.7 GHz, Cortex A53 and 1.0 GHz and comes with a graphics card Adreno 405. On the other hand, the Galaxy Alpha clocks at a speed of 1.3 GHz and 1.8 GHz with the Mali T628 MP6 for its Graphics processor. Both the phones have a quad core CPU.

Comparing Cameras

The HTC Desire 826 comes with a rear camera of 13 MP compared to the 12 MP resolution of the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. The resolution of the HTC Desire 826 camera is 4160 x 3120 pixels compared to the 4128 x 3096 pixels of the Galaxy Alpha. Both the cameras feature autofocus and flash features. As for video resolution, the HTC Desire 826 has a resolution of 1080 pixels @30 frames per second and 720 pixels at the rate of 60 frames per second. In case of the Galaxy Alpha, the resolution is 2160 pixels at the rate of 30 frames per second. The front camera of the HTC Desire 826 has a higher resolution of 4 MP with 1080 pixels, compared to the 2.1 MP of the Galaxy Alpha.

Battery and Other Features

The HTC Desire 826 has a Li Po battery of 2600 mAh, whereas the Galaxy Alpha has a Li Ion battery with a lower capacity of 1860 mAh. However, the Galaxy Alpha battery is removable, whereas it cannot be removed in case of the HTC Desire 826.

Both the devices come with a speaker and an MP3 player, but there is an additional FM Radio in the HTC Desire 826, which is not present in the Galaxy Alpha.
