iPhone 6 Plus vs. Google Nexus 6 – Comparison of Specs, Features and Price

The Nexus 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus smartphones were both launched in 2014.

However, the two happen to fall in the same category known as phablets; with the latter proving to be a better match for the former smartphone, despite being Apple’s first attempt in the large-screened smartphone world.

Apple is a new member in this category and with this huge phablet in the shape of iPhone 6 Plus, it seems to be ready to go head to head with huge Android smartphones, like the Nexus 6. So, how do the two phablets compare?

Display screen

The Nexus 6 is a massive device which comes with a screen size of 5.9 inches, with QHD AMOLED display and has an impressive pixel density of 493 pixels per inch. On the other hand, the iPhone 6 Plus, which is Apple’s largest smartphone ever, comes with a display size of 5.5 inches and it supports the IPS LCD technology. It has a slightly lower pixel density as opposed to its counterpart, the Nexus 6, standing at 401 pixels per inch.

Design and build

When talking about design, Motorola is nowhere close to what Apple does with their products. Even though the Nexus 6 looks tougher with its less attractive design, the iPhone 6 Plus is a better match with its sleek design, which is a trademark of Apple products, especially in the recent past. The Apple iPhone has an ultra-thin aluminum casing that makes it sturdy. This phone has an amazing addition where it can also bend.

Processing power

The Nexus 6 comes with a Qualcomm-based Snapdragon 805 processor that is clocked at 2.7GHz and is supported by an impressive RAM of 3GB. You’ll also find an Adreno 420 graphics unit on this Android smartphone.

The iPhone 6 Plus on the other hand comes with Apple’s chipset, which is the A8 processor, that works hand in hand with an M8 coprocessor. This device is supported by a RAM of 1GB.

Operating system

The Nexus 6 was launched with the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, which is one of the best Android operating systems ever. Users can still update to the latest Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, which has numerous fixes to bugs and other general problems associated with a new software application.

The iPhone 6 Plus on the other hand was launched with iOS 8.0. However, users can still update to the latest version of iOS 8.1, which again comes with patches and fixes to several bugs.

Camera

The Nexus 6 is equipped with a good quality camera, which has a rear snapper of 13MP and a front-facing snapper of 2MP. This camera comes with optical image stabilization, just like with that of the iPhone 6 Plus. However, the Apple device has what may on paper look like a relatively poor rear camera of 8MP, but this snapper offers great quality with pictures than the Nexus 6. You can still get this great quality regardless of the conditions in which the photos are taken. Furthermore, the Apple device offers 240 frames per second slow-motion recording.

Battery life

The Nexus 6 has what looks to be a larger battery unit of 3,220mAh, which enables it to survive the most part of the day, when in use. On the other hand, the iPhone 6 Plus comes with a 2, 915mAh battery unit, which is also not bad either. One thing that Nexus and iPhone users should know is that these devices have a better battery life than their predecessors.

Price

The Nexus 6 is priced from $649, which is of course for the 32GB model. The 64GB model comes in at about $699. On the other hand, the iPhone 6 Plus keeps the trend of other Apple products, which are known to come with premium prices. This device is available on Amazon for about $799. However, this is the price for the 16GB model. The 64GB model starts at about $939 while the 128GB model is available for a massive $1,030.
