Samsung Galaxy Core Prime vs Galaxy Core 2 – Two Popular Mid-Range Smartphones Comparison

Both of these smartphones were released last year, at an interval of four months. Their dual SIM capability and the small prices make them perfect handsets, but if you’re a potential buyer, you will want to spend your money on the best device.

Designs, dimensions and displays

The phones have a similar design, meaning that their shape is rectangular and the corners are rounded, but they’re more rounded on the Galaxy Core Prime, which has a shiny plastic rear cover. The Core 2 has a faux leather rear back and the same silver plastic frame as its sibling. Although they share the same screen of 4.5inches which supports 480×800 pixels and 207 ppi, their dimensions are different. The Galaxy Core Prime measures 130.8×67.9×8.8 mm and has a weight of 130 grams, while the Core 2 is 8 grams heavier and measures 130.3x68x9.8 mm.

Hardware

When it was released, the Core Prime ran on Android v4.4.4 (KitKat), but in the meantime it was upgraded to v5.0.2 (Lollipop). It’s powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A53 processor supported by a Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset along with Adreno 306 graphics and 1GB of RAM, while the Core 2 runs on Android v4.4.2 (KitKat) with 768MB of RAM and only its processor has been specified, which has four cores, clocked at 1.2GHz. The internal memory of the Core 2 is very low at 4GB, while the Core Prime has double its capacity, and both phones have a microSD card slot for expansion up to 64GB.

Cameras

The rear camera of the Galaxy Core 2 is 5MP and has the basic features, including LED flash, while its front camera is VGA, which won’t please you very much. The Core Prime has a much better back camera of 8MP and a secondary camera of 2MP.

Batteries

The batteries are both 2000mAh and user replaceable, but they have a different lifespan. The Core 2 lasts only 7 hours when making calls over 3G, while the Core Prime can last up to 13 hours.

Connectivity

There’s nothing to compare here, as both phones support 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n (WiFi hotspot and WiFi Direct), Bluetooth 4.0, EDGE, GPRS, GPS and microUSB 2.0.

Prices

In India, the Core Prime is sold for the price of Rs. 7,897 (124 dollars), while the Core 2 costs Rs. 6324 (100 dollars).
