GTA 5 is finally receiving an upgrade on next-gen consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S) after a long wait. Last week, story mode transfers began in the Expanded and Enhanced edition. Once a region’s version of the game is released, online character migrations will begin.

The modified version was initially tested in New Zealand and a few other nations. Several intriguing facts were revealed, and gamers received answers to questions they had been asking for quite some time.

All we know about character migration right now

TezFunz2, an industry insider, shared several important aspects for gamers before moving their characters. Rockstar Games has already addressed a few points regarding these transfers in its recent Newswire release.

It addressed a few aspects about Shark Card payments, transfer dates, and so on. However, it never addressed the issue of characters on old-generation consoles (PS4 and Xbox One) after the move.

This is what is intended to happen to characters in the current edition if they are moved to the new version: “Nothing. It will still be on the current version of the game, and you can still play with it on the current version, at least while that version of the game is still supported. No progress between the characters will be shared between the current version and the E&E version. Once the character is transferred, they become completely separate.”

Due to a lack of communication from the producers, gamers thought the characters would divide into two and follow separate ways. Rockstar Support, on the other hand, quickly explained all questions in their own FAQ. The following is an excerpt from there:

“IMPORTANT: Once your progress has been transferred from PlayStation 4 or Xbox One to PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, your migrated profile will no longer be available on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.”

Rockstar stated that you cannot transfer profiles from PS4 or Xbox One to PC.
