Apple iPhone 5S vs. iPhone 6 – Pricing and Specifications Compared

After a long wait, Apple finally decided to increase its screen size yet again.

This time, it was more crucial than ever after the new iPhone 6 featured a 4.7 inch display. This brought it closer to the Android smartphone league. Previously, it was seen as the major disadvantage in the iPhone 5S, although it resulted in a much handier phone. The iPhone 5S is now available with cut-price offers and it is still a very capable phone. This makes it harder to ignore.

Design

Design of the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 6 are vastly different and this is in tune with the company’s philosophy of revamping the entire design every two years. While the iPhone 5S features square and sharp edges around the phone, the iPhone 6 is more rounded. Apple appears to have deliberately gone for this shape in order to increase the usability, considering that the screen is now much larger. One sore point on the iPhone 6 may be the protruding camera, which comes as the negative aspect of having a 6.9 mm thin body. This phone is almost a millimeter thinner than the iPhone 5S.

Display

As expected, the biggest change comes in the screen size, where iPhone 6 users will be able to appreciate the 4.7 inch display in all the areas, like multimedia and productivity. Apple has not fiddled too much with the pixel density. As a result, it continues with the same retina display and it may be seen as a disappointment, compared with the recent high-end Android smartphones, which even feature QHD displays. The iPhone 5S may have only a 4 inch display, but the smaller size aids the better resolution on the phone.

Features like the fingerprint sensor have been retained without much change; but Apple does finally integrate the much awaited Apple Pay into the iPhone 6.

Memory

Memory options have been upgraded very subtly on the iPhone 6. Apple has totally done away with the 32 GB variant in the new phone. Instead, users will be able to enjoy higher capacities in the form of a 128 GB version. The lack of an external memory card means that this becomes an important element on the iPhone 6. The iPhone 5S crucially does not lag behind the new phone. This is largely because both devices almost have similar configurations, especially in the amount of available RAM.

The new iPhone 6 comes with the A8 processor, which provides only a 0.1 GHz increase in clock speed, compared to the dual core 1.3 GHz processor on the iPhone 5S. The quad core graphics card, which has received a lot of plaudits, continues to do the work albeit in the latest version. Battery life has not suffered a lot on the iPhone 6 even after the increase in the screen size. However, the iPhone 5S remain superior in this regard due to the smaller screen size. The 16 GB version of the iPhone 6 retails at $ 720 while the iPhone 5S is available around $550.
