GoPro Hero 4 Vs GoPro Hero 3 – Comparing Specs, Lens Power and Prices

The Gopro cameras have enabled amateurs to come up with professional looking action shots, which have changed in this segment for the good.

The third-generation device, Gopro Hero 3, is something that enhances the brand even further. This version has been on the market since 2012 and the white edition is the cheapest amongst the lot. It is set to be replaced by the upcoming fourth generation, Gopro Hero 4, in the next few weeks.

New Features

There have already been several specifications leaked on the Internet about the upcoming Gopro Hero 4. This device promises to be the flag bearer for the company for the next few years. Hence, it is set to come with all the latest trends including 4K recording according to rumors. The Gopro Hero 3 is a device capable of doing full HD video recording along with several other features.

One of the key areas where the Gopro Hero 3 substantially different from the products previously sold in the market was in the compactness. The company claimed that the device was at least 30% lighter and smaller, which is impressive considering that it came with Wi-Fi support. One of the disadvantages of having brought about a lighter and smaller device was the company’s inability to make accessories available for the previous generation devices that work with this model.

However, this is a small trade-off considering the amount of features that has been infused into this model. The cheapest model of the lot – Gopro Hero 3 – comes with a five megapixel sensor for taking pictures. It has been highly speculated that the upcoming model will feature a 13 megapixel unit. This, along with features like electronic image stabilization, HDR, and even possibly dual cameras, should make the Gopro Hero 4 extremely competent at taking pictures.

The camera also comes with the ability to take time-lapse pictures at different intervals. This aspect is expected to be improved even further on the upcoming device.

Videos

These cameras are primarily intended for taking videos on the go and this is where the Gopro Hero 3 excels because of its ability to take videos in different formats – including slow motion videos. The device is capable of 1080p capture at 30 frames per second, 960p capture at 30 frames per second, and 720p capture at 60 frames per second.

One of the biggest additions expected on the Gopro Hero 4 is the ability to take videos at 4K resolution, which is fast becoming the latest trend in the industry.

Battery

The Gopro Hero 3 uses a 1050 mAh battery, which is not necessarily the biggest in the world, but it is capable of providing around two hours of full HD video recording with Wi-Fi turned off. Using features like the Wi-Fi remote reduces the battery life even more. Hence, it is speculated that the upcoming Gopro Hero 4 main feature is slightly larger battery in order to provide around three hours of full HD video recording.

The Gopro Hero 3 is priced at $ 200 while the Gopro Hero 4 could be around $ 250.
