Sony thinks that From Software is the perfect M&A (merger and acquisition) candidate, according to a recent report by gaming analyst and insider Dr. Serkan Toto, who is also the CEO of Kantan Games.
The analyst gave us a summary of the company’s history, beginning in 1986 as a B2B software developer. Despite the tendency being relatively frequent in Japanese Studios, one of its projects was a pig-feeding management application, which was something unique at that time.
Rumour has it…
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that Sony is interested in acquiring From Software; the rumors have been around for a few weeks. In fact, a lot of people claimed the transaction had been finalized on social media, but it was merely an April Fool’s joke at the time. Given how widespread the allegations were, many people believed them. However, unlike in previous cases, the source of information is far more credible this time, which is what makes it so believable.
Suppose this rumor is real, and Sony does indeed acquire From Software. In that case, it might be one of the most significant purchases in the history of the gaming business, following the deal with Activision. To begin with, it’s surprising to see From Software open to acquisitions, given that the game’s creators had a near-perfect run with Elden Ring, which is still topping the sales charts many weeks after its release. Whatever the situation may be, with Sony already hinting that fresh acquisitions are on the way, we shouldn’t have to wait long to learn more.
