Marcus Lattimore Announcement: Commits to South Carolina
Marcus Lattimore, the consensus number one high school running back prospect in the nation, has comitted to the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Lattimore made his announcement Tuesday night at his church in Spartanburg surrounded by friends and family. The church, which can hold several hundred people, appeared to be at capacity. He chose USC over Auburn, which had made a hard pitch for the star in recent months.
Lattimore is one of the nation's top recruited running backs. The senior had narrowed down his choices to two schools: Auburn University and USC.

The announcement comes after months of lobbying by Auburn Coach Gene Chizik and USC Coach Steve Spurrier. Both coaches have personally appealed to Lattimore at his home in Spartanburg.
Lattimore says he made that decision after talking with another Spartanburg native, Auburn star running back Stephen Davis.
"He just reminded me to go with my gut feeling and go with your heart," said Lattimore. "He knew when he went to Auburn that that's where he wanted to go because that's where his heart was at, that's where the gut-feeling was at for him. So, I just took that advice and ran with it."
"There's only one goal on my mind, and that's to beat Southern Miss," said Lattimore. USC plays Southern Mississippi in this year's season opener.
The South Carolina Athletics Coaches Association named Lattimore "Mr. Football" late last year. The award is for the state's top football player.
USC's Stephon Gilmore was given the award in 2008. This is the first time in the history of the award that any school has recruited two Mr. Football winners in a row.
