Dave Thomas Foundation Grant Funds DePaul Community Resources
Located in the Roanoke Valley, DePaul Community Resources is one of only three organizations in the state to receive grant money from the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
The $65,000 grant allows DePaul Community Resources to participate in the Wendy's Wonderful Kids program. It's a child-focused recruitment program targeted exclusively on moving children from foster care into adoptive families.
DePaul's goal was to match 12 children with families in its first year. The result was 13 "matches" with one finalized adoption.
But with 200 foster children in the Roanoke region waiting for adoption, there is still a huge need.
Dave Thomas was an American restaurant owner and philanthropist. Thomas was the founder and chief executive officer of Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers, a fast-food restaurant chain specializing in hamburgers. He is also known for appearing in more than 800 commercial advertisements for the chain from 1989 to 2002–more than any other person in television history.
Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is a national nonprofit 501(c)3 public charity dedicated to dramatically increasing the adoptions of the more than 150,000 children waiting in North America's foster care systems. Created by Wendy's founder, Dave Thomas, who was adopted as a child, the Foundation implements results-driven national signature programs, foster care adoption awareness initiatives and research-based advocacy efforts.
